Spain's most magical week of the year...in a typical village as Mijas that is obviously an event unlike any other.
In the week before Easter, Mijas lives!
When Easter is celebrated in the UK, Spain celebrates their holy week (semana santa).
Throughout the country there will be processions in honor of the saint of the town / city.
The processions start on Palm Sunday. In the morning the processions will start with palmtrees and olive branches. In Mijas the procession of that day will start at 1 o´clock (ie, around that time) - a first procession in honor of Joseph and his coming to Jerusalem,
On Wednesday, the processions are held in the honor of the Holy "Cristo de la Columna".
On Thursday the procession will be in honor of the Hermandad del Dulce Nombre de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, founded in 1646 and renovated in 1986.The processions ends in the Church of San Sebastian where he is blessed.
On Friday the procession will be in honor of the Holy Virgin of Mijas (Virgin de la Peña), together with Santa Cruz borne in this village, to the Plaza de la Libertad. On Easter Sunday, the last processions are carried out, starting at 12 o´clock in the morning. The last one will be held at noon.
Before that time, we will collect all information to make sure you won't miss the highlights.
